Martin Suter’in romanından uyarlanmış olan bu filmde genç ve çekingen garson David güzel Marie’ye aşık olur ancak ilk adımı atma cesareti yoktur. En sonunda kızın ilgisini çekebilmek için ona elle yazılmış bir roman verir. Marie romanı çok beğenir ve hemen bir yayınevine yollar. Kitap ”Lila Lila” başlığı ile en çok satanlar listesine girer fakat asıl sorun David’in bu romanı yazmamış olmasıdır.El yazısıyla yazılmış bu kopyasını bir eskici dükkanında bulmuştur. Kitabın boş gezen asıl yazarı ise sahtekar David’e baskı yapmak için harekete geçer..
